Possible Winning Scenarios – January 3, 2012 Update – 12pm

With 3 games remaining, 8 entries are still alive to win the pool, with 2 others still alive for 2nd place.

The following 5 people can win the pool if Michigan wins the Sugar Bowl tonight:

The following 5 people can win the pool if Virginia Tech wins the Sugar Bowl tonight:

Additionally, Tony Chan and Nancy Heffner are still alive for 2nd place if Michigan, Clemson, and Alabama win.

January 3, 2012 – 7am Update

Following the 6 “New Years Day” bowl games, there is a three-way tie atop the leaderboard between Bobby Heffner, Jason Rashid, and Mike Geffel with 20 points each (out of 24), as the favored teams continued their winning ways. But plenty of entries are still alive to win the pool, with only 3 games remaining.

Happy New Year!! – January 1, 2012 Update

Well, New Year’s Day is usually the busiest day of the bowl season, but with NFL games today, the college teams are taking the day off.  Action will resume tomorrow with 6 games, including 2 BCS games worth 2 points each.

Bobby Heffner continues to lead the pool with 14 of 16 correct.

December 31, 2011 Update – 11am

A surprising bowl season so far this year in that the favorites have won 11 of 12 games (compare that to last year when the favorites only won 5 of the first 12 games).  Consequently, there are a lot of good scores in the pool.

The leaders are Bobby Heffner, Tony Chan, and Wayne Remai with 11 out of 12 correct.  But there are plenty of entries right on their heels, including 6 entries with 10 of 12 correct.  Four more games on the docket today.

Thanks to come-from-behind victories by Florida State and Baylor yesterday, two entries (Bobby Heffner and Wayne Remai) remain perfect through 8 games.   Today there are 4 games on-tap, so we could see a shake-up in the standings.

All entries have been submitted. There were a total of 51 entries this year, bringing the pot to $255. Payouts will be as follows:

1st Place: $200

2nd Place: $50

Last Place: $5 returned

I’m having some computer difficulties getting the spreadsheet loaded with everyone’s picks (my parent’s computer doesn’t have Excel). I’ll follow up with an update later.

Final Results – January 11, 2011

Congratulations to Lauren Handel for winning this year’s bowl pool! Lauren finished with 21 points and the closest tiebreaker in the National Championship game, accurately predicting the surprisingly low score.  Despite not leading the pool at any point until last night, Lauren’s strong finish claimed the top prize.

Tom Hash and Lou Sabad claimed 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, also with 21 points each and the next closest tiebreakers. Miriam Snare got her money back for finishing last.
